Rather than battle with work powers, Cyclops, or quicken creatures, sexual clashes with grown-up females are now and again considerably more difficult to win. These two female characters are especially baiting to Odysseus since they are goddesses. In spite of the fact that it is clear that Odysseus aches to come back to Penelope in Ithaca, it now and again gives the idea that he has lost vision of what life resembled with a wedded lady, a kid, and with 1000s of individuals who view him as King. At the point when Odysseus and his work powers show up on Circe # 8217 ; s island, they are still in sensibly great structure. In Book X, lines 194-196, Odysseus says: # 8220 ; I moved to a bouldery topographic purpose of perception and took a gander at the island, and the endless ocean lies all around it. # 8221 ; I accept this enlightens an extremely of import feature in Circe # 8217 ; s tendencies. She doesn # 8217 ; t appear to want to do any existent injury to the work powers, however needs to surround these work powers with her supplement, vino, and lewdness. She is by all accounts fixated on salacity and material proprietorships , and it is my conviction that she speaks to all that is powerless in grown-up females ( at any rate in Homer # 8217 ; s cut ) . In lines 294-296, Hermes is give withing Odysseus on the most proficient method to stay away from injury from Circe: # 8220 ; hotfoot frontward against Circe, as though you were inclining to slaughter her, and she will be apprehensive, and welcome you to go to bed with her. # 8221 ; Circe other than shows us as perusers Odysseus # 8217 ; coming up short towards prurience and sexual orientation. This clasp spent on Circe # 8217 ; s island was a preliminary of whether he could challenge indecency from a goddess, and he comes up short. From the start it seems like the solitary ground Odysseus lays down with Circe is to recoup his confidants, however she simple convinces them to remain. What exacerbates the reality Odysseus is non even the first prepared to travel. His work powers are the 1s who ask him to go forward: # 8220 ; What upsets you now? It is clasp to accept about ou R ain country† ( Book X, line 472 ) . At an impression, apparently Odysseus is essentially respecting Circe’s techniques for grounds identified with their wellbeing and great being, in the event that we set out to find the real story, we in no time get down to perceive that Odysseus is powerless in the voracious guardianships of obscenity. Odysseus shows up on Calypso’s island in her cavern. From the outset, it appears Odysseus doesn’t appear to be a lot to mind her taking consideration of him, yet over clasp it is clearly evident that he is discontent with her. At the point when Hermes shows up on Calypso’s island to give her the message from Zeus to relinquish Odysseus, he is roaring on the beach†a daylong action for him. Calypso is keeping him with her forcibly ; she has no confidants to help him back to Ithaca, nor has she a boat to guide him in. Athena begs Zeus to give Odysseus good karma, expressing that â€Å"he lies away on an island m isery solid strivings in the mansion of the sprite Calypso, and she confines him by restriction, and he can non do his way to his state, for he has non any boats by him, nor any confidants who can pass on him back over the sea’s expansive ridges† ( Book V, lines 13-17 ) . Odysseus’s visit to Calypso island, and his drawn-out remain, shows his stamp side, when he is isolated by perish from his team, cognizing he has no pick yet to remain with Calypso, yet he despite everything grieves for Penelope, Telemachus, and Ithaca. Calypso feels it is her entitlement to look after Odysseus. All things considered, it was her raising and love that spared him from expire. She cherishes him and needed to do him eternal with her so they could populate together for all unendingness, yet he despite everything aches to come back to his place. This shows Odysseus’ expectation, finding, and huge love for his place. The vast majority would hold surrendered trust by this clasp. Odysseus’ involvement in Calypso mirrors his quality and perseverance, however he cries each of the twenty-four hours ordinary. It is fairly dry. Calypso appears to represent womanly green-looked at beast. She realizes he has a hitched lady sitting tight in Ithaca for him, yet she keeps on holding him for her ain narrow minded felicity. She is by all accounts a little uncertain in the event that she is more noteworthy in excellence than Penelope when she guarantees Odysseus that she surpasses Penelope by a wide margin in that nation. It appears that she recognized what his answer would be and just needed to hear it from his oral depression. Circe and Calypso are two extremely remarkable switches in Odysseus # 8217 ; come back to Ithaca. I accept the ground these two topographic focuses confined him for longer than some other topographic point was on the grounds that Odysseus, when within the sight of these excellent goddesses, was debilitated gravely. It # 8217 ; s the normal, dateless account of the force grown-up females hold over work powers with regards to sex.

Just look, dont read

Making things look more complicated than they are is one of the SATs specialties, and nowhere is this more apparent than on questions that look like the following: Unlike the author of Passage 1, the author of Passage 2 (A) criticizes a practice (B) offers an example (C) proposes a solution (D) states an opinion (E) quotes an expert When confronted with something like this, most people react in one of two highly inefficient ways: 1) They stare at the answers, convinced that if they just think about it long enough, theyll remember just what Passage 2 contained that Passage 1 didnt. Needless to say (I hope), this is not the most effective way of working. Most peoples memories are not nearly as reliable as theyd like to think, and furthermore, most peoples memories are considerably less reliable than normal when theyve been up since 6 a.m. and are taking a test that has the potential to impact the rest of their lives. 2) They start checking out all of the answers in order, reading first through one passage and then the other for each option and trying to decide just what constitutes, say, offering an example While this a considerably more reliable strategy than #1 given enough time, a good number of people will actually come up with the correct answer this way its also very time consuming and tends to leave open the possibility of reading too much into the answer choices. And just to reiterate: the SAT is not asking whether maybe possibly you might be able to understand a particular line as offering an example. It is asking you to identify a straightforward, concrete, indisputable distinction between the two texts. (As a side note, its actually an important skill: how an author chooses to argue his or her point is often crucial to the validity of his or her argument. But unfortunately, you dont get to care about that on the SAT.) The keyword here is straightforward. Typically, the College Board will include answer choices that range from the highly concrete (quotes an expert) to the relatively abstract (criticizes a practice). The more abstract the option, the more it is open to misunderstanding and misinterpretation, and the more crucial it is that you be capable of making precise distinctions between ideas (e.g. example vs. criticism vs. solution). The trick, however, is to save yourself the trouble of worrying about the more abstract options by focusing on the more concrete ones first. More often than not, the correct answer will actually among them. And the beauty (?) of it is that checking them out requires you to neither read nor think! Usually, the more concrete options include quotes (quoting an expert), question marks (asking rhetorical questions), and the word I (personal anecdote). To check them out, all you have to have to do is scan not read! the passage or passages for these visual cues. You dont need to read anything, just look. If you see quotes in one passage but not the other, thats almost certainly the answer. The whole thing takes about ten seconds. No going back and forth, no deliberating, no angst, just right to the answer. By the way, your ability to use this kind of logical shortcut is a big part of what the SAT tests. Yes, there are other ways to get the right answer, but working this way leaves you clearheaded to deal with the questions that require a lot more thinking. You dont get tired and distracted, and consequently youre less likely to to make silly mistakes or overlook obvious things on other parts of the test. Because thats what gets most people: lots of small errors that accumulate just enough to really hurt. The real trick is to prevent yourself from being in a position to make them.

Is Foster Care The Best Place For A Looked After Child

Is foster-care the best place for a looked after child? Every child is entitled to feel respected, safe, loved and feel that they belong. It must, however, be recognised that society and families are changing and become acquainted with the life-changing impact these changes have on children. Every 22 minutes, a child comes into care in need of a foster family. But is foster-care the best option for these children or is foster-care becoming a cost-effective blanket approach for children requiring state care, regardless of what’s best for child. As White and Lane (2008) so eloquently state, â€Å"it would be a brave – if not foolish – person who advocated one form of care for all children and young people, regardless of circumstances†. â€Å"Children†¦show more content†¦The Children Act 1989 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC; United Nations Charter for the Rights of Children 1989) and the Children and Families Act 2014 have driven a theoretical and policy shift in the attitudes and understandings of children’s involvement in the services relevant to them (Goodyer, 2012; Simpson, 2015). Goodley, (2012 p394) argues children’s rights under the UNCRC are based on the three premises of rights: the rights to protection, provision and participation. This distinction can contribute to the ways in which welfare provision in England operates different models, simultaneously creating tensions between parallel provisions. The child development model underpinning the current child and family practice enables the provision and protection aspects of children’s right to be addressed. Child and family social work has been extremely preoccupied with providing childre n with a safe and protected childhood, with looked-after children being deemed a low priority in the participation, design, delivery and monitoring of their services (Goodyer, 2012). According to Cocker and Allian (2012 p36) â€Å"the philosophy of the Children Act 1989 is that the best place for children to be brought up is within their own family, and that children in need can be helped most effectively if the local authority – working in partnership with parents – provides an
